We have an older 2011 480 Knysna. Recently we have had water collecting in the water tank closets in both forward heads. Close inspection revealed a leak on the bottom of the tank where there is a fiber glassed in push fitting .The fitting itself is leaking slowly. Our options seem to be to find a sealant and try to “repair” the permanent fitting or drill it out and place a new one possibly with a plate to assure leak proofing. Has anyone tried this? Any other solutions?
Do you have pictures?
This is the connector that is in place from the initial build. It is a push fit fitting and the left part is inside the tank- i guess it could be called the anchor point and this is not accessible–which is the problem and the right side screws in- also not accessible because someone somewhere fiberglassed this part in. We see a leak but can’t tell exactly where it comes from. We can dremel tool the fiberglass off the visible part and inspect closer . We will try that today and if it looks like we can “plug” the hole we are going to try JB weld. But I personally think we have to cut this connector out, make a base plate with the anchor point glued or glassed in, stick that over the whole area , glue or glass it and then screw in the connector part that is visible. Wow , what a task. Anyone with a better idea?
Thanks to all of you
Carol
Before you replace the fitting, is it leaking from the pipe to fitting seal?
You obviously know how to remove the pipe from the fitting by pushing in che collar and pulling out the pipe.
Inspect the pipe. If there is any scratches on the pipe, first try replacing the pipe. It should just be a short section of pipe. I think it 15mm
It could just be the seal onto the pipe. That pipe does get a bit of move from the pump. Fingers crossed it a simple fix..

Hi Carol, not sure what happened to your post - it ended up on the wrong thread.
You might find it useful to read the post I did on my water tank issues. It will give you a good idea of the structure of the tank. I think the “fibreglass bulkhead” you refer to is probably the first of the baffles - on my boat there are three - with the outlet fitting beyond them all. On my boat accessing that fitting from the tank side would be nigh on impossible without major surgery.
