Wet Locker and Ideas on Fit & Finish

Hello everyone from Knysna, we have been in meetings all week going over so many details for our 550.

It was suggested to add a rail in the shower to hang wetsuits or raincoats. Who has done it? Since there is no dedicated wet locker this made sense to me.

Any other helpful fit & finish ideas?

Hi Sue! I put them in both forward showers to hang wetsuits. Very very happy with them! Hope all is going well with your final plans!

We have a bit of a rule… no wet / salty people or clothes are allowed inside our boat. There is a deck shower and everyone is expected to rinse off and dry off before entering the saloon.
Wetsuits and BCDs are rinsed and hung to dry outside. We use the grab rails on the cockpit roof to hang heavy items such as BCDs from.

We have a clothesline under our solar rack. It is really useful, but clothing can’t be left there long, as it destroys the view out the back.

We have installed more towel racks in the forward starboard cabin, and in the forward starboard bathroom. These are used as hanging space, and for drying washing etc. we put a dehumidifier in the cabin, and in a short time, and using very little power all the washing/ wetsuits/ BCDs are dry.

We have anodised tubes fitted in both showers (500SE owners version) has a shower in each forepeak. I do a lot of watersports and use these rails to store my lifevests, rashguards, wetsuits, helmets etc. I dry them in the shade under the coachroof and then when almost dry move them to the showers in the forepeak.
I also have double towel rails mounted in each bathroom that we only use for towels.

I seem to recall that you are long time monohull sailors . You are going to be ALOT drier sailing on your 57ft catamaran, so the need to have a wet locker like most big monohulls do or would like to have, is not really necessary on a large catamaran unless you do a lot of water watersports and even then I have not felt I needed one. Monohulls generally have a wet locker for foul weather gear. Having done 27000nm I think i have used my foul weather gear twice and it was more for warmth than to keep me dry!!
