After two years, our bungies that attach the tramp to the ‘cars’ are starting to fray. At the boat show this weekend, a dealer was saying dynema was the way to go. I’m a bit hesitant to go that route as the bungies seem to give the tramp some flex where the dynema wouldn’t.
Has any replaced their bungies with dynema? Or regular line? And gotten ride of the bungie approach?
I would not use dyneema as it has no give and will place a lot of extra strain on your trampoline and it will not be very forgiving or as comfortable to walk on. I replace my bungee every two years. Just another maintenance item The more you walk on the tramp the sooner your bungee will wear out … so get Caroline to work the foredeck
We have recently replaced our tramp bungee/line with dyneema all around, 2 years and the bungee had had it. It is not strung excessively tightly so there is still some movement - but much less than we had with bungee on 50% of the sides.
We tied each side independently just in case a line snaps or comes untied. We started each side with a Brummel locked eye in the end of the dyneema for each side and tied the ends.
The feel underfoot is I suppose personal preference - but we prefer the less bouncy more secure feel. As to how long it will last, only time will tell. One thing it does eliminate is the kids bouncing on the trampoline playground.
Note: we also had to have the stitching re-done on the tramps at this 2 year point too - it was average quality thread and had been completely destroyed by the UV. We have re-stitched with Tenara thread that should last much longer.
One thing to watch out for is the stainless sliders can come out of the end of the tracks and get lost - if you look closely in the photo you will see we blocked the end of the slider track with trimmed off wine bottle cork.
Ian, we had our stitches go out also, but think they used UV thread on some sides, and then non UV on others. The part that went out was the whole side using the same thread, whereas other sides were like new like day one.
Yes some of our sides looked good too - but once I put my fingers under the cloth they just broke and popped apart. We restitched all sides on both tramps.
Yes we just restitched using zig-zag over the existing.
Hi Ian
I got North to tart making the trampolines for KYC as the previous maker of these (Ullman Sails in Cape Town ) made a poor trampoline with a large glued join one third of the way down the trampoline and it looked terrible and i was concerned with the safety. I had my tramp restitched n the USA after four years. As you noted the problem was they did not use Technora (goretex) thread and hence the UV decay. I have picked this up with the NS loft and they will be sorting this.
I made new. Tramps using a sail rite zig zag machine. I used mostly straight stitches. I used the best thread they had. The hardest thing is having a big flat ,work space. All the stitches are on the perimeter which eliminates another big issue
You can do it in less than a day.
