Has anyone had to open up a newer (black) Profurl Genoa furler? Model NDE2 - I think the brushes may have gone on mine 
It seemed to run slowly today when I un-furled then stopped completely.
Control electrics tested and seem to be controlling the solenoid properly. I suspect the brushes in the furler motor.

The furler has four smaller electric motors.
Our unit had let water in and the compartment with the electric motors had emulsified black liquid in it. Upon investigation the anodising is said to be damaged on the thrust tube leading to a poor seal and water ingress.
We also had some torn and damaged bits in the oil (see photo), I’m unclear why…
Verdict from “Kiwi Yachting” the NZ distributor was new motors, seals, bearings and a thrust tube were needed - a poor outcome for a 3 ½ year old unit.
The unit is apparently a Facnor unit badged as Profurl - parts have to come from Facnor in France. The electric furler will hopefully catch up with us once it is rebuilt.
Needless to say parts for the electric furler are not readily available in NZ and shipping from France was very disrupted by the Profurl/Facnor interface… To get us moving again and out of chilly NZ we have temporarily fitted a manual furler drum to the existing foil - which works quite well. It’s not ‘push button’ but there is a lot to be said for simplicity. The line leads back to one of our electric winches.
I just did an overhaul of a white furler. What a job!!! ended vapor blasting, welding and machining the thrust tube. It was a big job. Poor sealing is the same issue as the white furlers are failing from. On the white ones, the seals cut through the anodizing, which allows the aluminium to come in contact with salt water. this gets pitted and cuts the seals. Then water just flows into the unit. Well, that is the white furler. In my opinion, if they were overhauled at about 5 years, they may last a lot longer. Whatever way you look at it, they are a poor product for the price.
What is a “white” furler?
The older Profurl furlers were white. The model on this range are NDEC 520 etc. The newer black ones are model NDE2 520 etc. The white ones have a problem with the seals onto an anodised shaft. It seems the black ones may also have the issue, but hopefully not.
