One-way ticket to South Africa

In August we’ll head to South Africa where we’ll pick up our 550 and sail to the US. Is there any problem entering the country with a 1-way ticket, or is there documentation that Immigrations wants to see as we have a 1-way ticket and no obvious way to exit the country?

I am often traveling with my German passport into South Africa. SA immigration never asked me for my return ticket.
However your airline might be the problem and want to see your return ticket as they would be obliged to fly you back for free if you are denied entry into the country of destination. I recommend you to obtain an official looking document of some sort elaborating that you are leaving SA by ship.
This is my experience with my German passport. As the USA administration with it’s confrontational course is now making free travel into the US very difficult, there might be repurcussions for American passport holders. The rules for American passports travelling to SA might be different.

Traveled to 50 different countries, been to South Africa 3 times. I’ve never had to show a return ticket or tell them I’m on a boat, etc. Lot of people fly into a country, stay, then purchase a flight later and leave.
