So… does anyone have any idea how far out the boom extension can travel for the dinghy/ tender to be lowered ? Is there a mark on the extension that I am missing ? TIA
We have hull #69 a 480….
The best way is to lower the topping lift until the boom is level (this makes it easier to pull the boom extension out)
Now pull the boom extension out by hand. It should slide reasonably easily until it comes to a stop. Mark this length… make sure you don’t winch the extension against this stop. You will damage the mechanism.
I have painted 2 inverted V’s on the boom extension. It has made it much faster and more accurate to raise and retrieve the dinghy…
The first v is when it is at the exact position to lift or lower the dinghy onto the arms.
The second is when it’s fully extended…
The reason for an inverted V is the first leg gives you a warning that you are getting close.
The second leg is when you are exactly in the right position…
Everyone has their own ideas… this is just what has worked really well for us.
Almost
Perfect
Too far
Both V’s
Thanks Mike. I shall have a look at extending it to the max in the coming 24 hours and see what it looks like. What’s your sense/ estimate on the extension length from the end of the boom ?
Robbie & Susan
Boat #65
We extend it 1410 mm to lift the dinghy,
And 2640 mm to put it in the water.
That’s measured along the top of the extension.
Thank you. Tried and tested and extra thanks to Pura Vida in the vicinity
Hi Guys
I made a marking system similar to Mikes … i just use one, two and three stripes with three being at the end … and it works well … That said … you must put these marks on the extension where they are visible as marked from the helm and not from a 90 degree angle of view on the starboard beam as you will get an error of parallax from trying to sight this from the helm position and potentially try and extend the davit extension to far. Another thing that is useful is to mark the vang with a sharpie so that you know the boom is at the correct angle and if you do this you can also mark the line that extends the davit so it give you another reference point. Bear in mind hear that this is yachtmaster braid and can be prone to stretching so that mark on the line might not stay a constant mark. Hope this helps … Cheers … Steve
