Insta360 Camera

Last Thursday, Sue and I went to the Newport Boat show. While we didn’t buy much boat stuff, I did get a pretty cool toy. It’s an Insta360 X4 camera, which shoots 360-degree photos and videos. It has (2) 210-degree fisheye lenses that are back to back, and it stitches the images from the 2 lenses together to generate a 360-degree image. You can shoot up to 8K video or up to 72MP photos. Unfortunately, 360-degree photos don’t display properly in this forum, but they do display properly on Facebook and Instagram.

When you shoot, you just keep the camera pointed forward, and when you edit the video, you can pan any direction that you want. For example, the video below just had the camera pointing forward, and when I edited it, I panned 180 degrees back toward me and then forward again.

Editing can be done on your phone or PC. On your phone, you can edit the video by just pointing the screen at whatever to frame (kind of like you were filming in real-time, but you’re actually editing the video.)

Believe me, this camera has quite a learning curve, both in terms of technical shooting and composing photos or videos. I’m looking forward to the process and using it while cruising!
