I recently ordered a bunch of inflatable fenders at the Annapolis boat show. Now I’m trying to figure out how to inflate them. If you have inflatable fenders, whose pump did you use and where did you get it (in South Africa)?
You can use your dinghy pump or any pump with the same type of fitting. As long as it will pump up to 5 psi.
I use the exhaust of a shop vac to inflate them in a couple seconds, then top them off with the pump.
We ordered in fendertex fenders. We bought a dock package which included a pump. Fast and easy to use. I would imagine if you plan to have a dive compressor there would be an attachment you could use? Did the company you bought the fenders from provide a pump option? Ours is the same attachment t you would use for a paddleboard or a dinghy.
I ordered the fenders from PYI. They offer a 12V SUP pump that takes ~10-15 minutes to fill up a fender and only costs about $150, or a permanently wired (pick your voltage) pump that fills up a fender in just a minute or two but costs $1575!
I think the best idea is to use a shop vac to inflate the inflatable and then a SUP pump to top it off. I’m also looking for things I can source in ZA and not have to ship/carry in.
I learned that the standard inflation of 5 PSI is fine for normal conditions, but they recommend 7 PSI if it’s blowing hard (like on the last day of the show). The normal fender pump can only generate 5 PSI.
The pump Highfield supplies with their ducky works magnificently for Fendertex inflatable fenders.
Is the Highfield pump manual?
Yes, it is manual, but very efficient at filling the fenders
The Highfield manual pump fills our fenders in 2 mins.
