Are the labels on the electrical panel backlit?
I was looking at photos from 500SE hull 105 (Changing Gear Again), and I really can’t tell. The reason that I ask, is that Grant indicated that we may want a light above the panel, and I was just trying to figure out why I would need one.
Yes all the labels are back lit and the switches have indicator lights. Ass U Me ing of course you have the same panel we do. (BlueSeas Custom 360) they work well and you would not turn the light on to see the panel.
And assuming a similar layout 500SE → 550
However - the light above the switch panel is needed to see in the cupboard opposite the switch panel (we use that as a pantry) and I almost always have to switch the light on if I’m cooking in an evening.
One of my (as yet to do) projects is to add LED strips inside that cupboard with auto-cupboard door switches.
Thanks. Our electrical panels are in a completely different location. Grant was suggesting placing a light above the panels. Also, don’t draw any conclusions from the rendering of the panel, as it’s just a placeholder (I think).
I think its roughly the same location - starboard side to the left as you go down the steps - but the 550 does not look like it has a cupboard opposite the panel.
Also in the render on the KYC site the electrical panel looks like it is quite different - so I suppose the first question has to be what panel they are fitting to your boat?
For comparison a pic of our panel
The layout of the 550 is quite different. The galley is on the left as you want into the salon, and there’s a nav station to the left of the stairs to the stbd hull. And the nav station has undergone a major redesign since the rendering was completed.
And even the following is out of date, as the displays have been swapped around:
What I’m thinking about doing is mounting the following light near the corner of the nav station so that it can light up the nav station surface and swing over the edge to light up the stairs and electrical panel if needed. It’s both red and white.
The switches are back lit on our #96 boat but they are a bit dim. I have a light above the panel as shown in Ian’s post that I use all the time when needed at night to read the panel switches easier.
