Anchor Chain Hooks

When I first joined the WhatsApp Knysa group, there was a lot of discussion about chain hooks. I don’t remember what people were recommending, but we were just at the Annapolis sailboat show, and saw the Mantus M3 chain hook.

It’s a beast, and it won’t come undone. We are ordering one for our 550.

We have given up on anchor chain hooks. After looking at them in quite a lot of detail, they are far too complicated and prone to coming off.

Our solution? A simple D shack through the chain to the snubber. We use a galvanised d shackle, as it’s going onto a galvanised chain. … and we have dropped a few…

It sure is a beast … That said I prefer there M2 hook … except for the awful rubber strap locking system which I replaced with a velcro strap which last between 3- 5 months and then i just replace it with another one and then redo the velcro on the old one and its good to go again! … Just make sure you rotate the locking pin correctly as it looks like the same locking system they use for their mooring ball bridle. Now that i think of it you can now probably use your M3 for both your chain and mooring ball … which is a bonus!! We really like the mantus products and lots of their stuff.

cheers … Steve

The M3 hook comes standard on the Mantus bridal now

I remember that discussion too, and many people had mixed opinions about different chain hooks. The Mantus M3 looks really solid and is built strong enough to handle heavy loads without slipping off. Ordering one for your 550 sounds like a great choice, especially if you want something reliable for rough conditions.

We use to have the hook with the rubber strap. We (I) never had any problem with it, but Carolyn did as it was hard to wrap and hook it in the post.

We got the M3 at the boat show ands she likes it. Very easy to get off. Order spare springs. And maybe squirt it with silicone every once in a while.

I recently purchased a couple of spare straps for our M2 chain hook - at a very good price for a marine product.
