A bigger jib engine?

Has anyone but a bigger jib on their boat?

I’ve been looking at at the jib. It looks like you could extend it down about another metre. This would dramatically increase the sail area. Has anyone tried this?

The clew seems very high. The jib could possibly have an extra meter
Of leech, making it a much more powerful sail…

Has anyone tried this?

Not that I know of. That said my genoa seems to be cut a little lower than yours. My genoa was made by North Sails. I would be in two minds about that given that you lose a lot of visibility for the marginal gain in performance! …What amazes me is how many catamarans (production and semi custom) come with self tacking jibs (that are literally nearly the size of a storm jib !!! … Having sailed over 30 000 miles since leaving Cape Town … I have now tacked three times and gybed four times and on those tacks … its helpful to be able to backwind the jib which you cannot do on a self taking jib … Bizarre

Ok, I when ahead and got a new bigger jib. It’s also made out of flash material and has a tri radial cut. Boy, what a difference. We have
Picked up about 1.5 kts and point a lot higher.
Under tension, the clew is about 40 cm off the saloon roof

Who made your jib?
Catch my drift needs a new jib and main. I used UK Hallsey for my previous S&S Swans (47 and 57 ketch) and found them great value for money. Interested to hear of recommendations

Ulman sails in Brisbane. I knew the sail maker , Andrew. It was twice as much as a standard replacement, but it works for well. Today was a downwind sail, so we just used the jib.. it was windy, but 9.7 on the jib alone was nice.
