Gas bottles - adapters for refilling

Gas bottles - adapters for refilling

We have two gas bottles on BAHATI with a valve not being used in Europe (see picture). This does make it very difficult to find somebody who can fill up our bottles. We were trying different adapters from the chandlery but none was fitting our bottles.

  • What kind of valve type/system/norm is on the gas bottles supplied by KYC for BAHATI. Somebody mentioned it is the type used in North America?
  • Does anybody have a recommendation where to buy the proper adaptor?
  • How do you fill your bottles in Europe?

Thanks

In our experience most refill stations can fill POL (US Style) fittings. The issue you will probably face is that European countries tend to work on an exchange basis for the bottles and refilling is centralised. The bottle fittings can also be different between different suppliers…

We have had the Gasboat adapter kit on board for many years (on our last boat too). This contains a good selection of adapters that allow you to get a local bottle and connect to it (including the POL style and UK Calor fittings).

I haven’t moved my Knysna to using this system yet - because POL fittings are common in the Caribbean and Pacific - but it is on board ready for the day I need it.

If you have specific requirements the company that produces the Gasboat kit is very helpful.

Thanks for the feedback. After some research I found an adapter “USA Gas Bottle Left POL Adapter to 21.8mm Butan or Klf German type” on Ebay. I will order it and give it a try.
